Vacancy: Information Systems Specialist

Before a unit has communications, system access and workstations, someone has to physically build it all: lay the cable, install the equipment, bring up the servers and tunnels.

The Information Systems Specialist deploys and maintains the unit's telecommunications networks and computer systems — from laying cable to configuring servers and VPN tunnels.

This is a position for someone who is good with both their hands and their head: a crimping tool and an understanding of network architecture are equally necessary here.

Who can become an Information Systems Specialist

Technical education or experience is required — this is a specialist position.

What really matters:

  • Higher or specialised technical education: telecommunications, computer science or related fields
  • Experience configuring computer, peripheral and telecommunications equipment
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals — OSI, TCP/IP, VPN, VLAN, NAT, DHCP, DNS — a significant advantage
  • Ability to deploy modern software products quickly by following the documentation
  • Knowledge of Linux and programming skills — a significant advantage
  • Readiness for physical work: cable, racks, installation

How an Information Systems Specialist differs from a system administrator: the former builds new things and deploys infrastructure. The latter keeps what is already in place up and running.

What an Information Systems Specialist does in the 141st SMB

In addition to what is described in the requirements above:

  • Deployment, configuration and maintenance of telecommunications networks and computer systems
  • Installation, configuration and testing of local area networks
  • Provision of the physical data transmission infrastructure: cable laying, switching equipment, uninterruptible power supply systems
  • Deployment of VPN tunnels, local servers, and monitoring and remote access systems
  • Diagnosis and prompt troubleshooting of network connection faults
  • Technical support for users and advice on IT matters

How you will be trained

The path is the same for everyone: 51 days of basic military training, then the brigade adaptation course — 14–15 days with instructors who have combat experience.

Then comes work in your specialism alongside experienced specialists in the field. Civilian experience counts; the specifics lie in the information protection requirements and in the fact that you often have to deploy quickly and not always in comfortable conditions.

Tactical medicine is drilled until it becomes automatic. Our instructors' principle is short: the priority is to survive.

What you will be provided with

You will be fully kitted out: gear, protective equipment, and the tools and equipment you need for the job.

You will not be on your own. Deployment is teamwork: a group of specialists, administrators and signallers who put the system into operation.

What the terms include:

  • Pay: base pay of UAH 21,000 + an additional bonus of UAH 30,000 — approximately UAH 51,000 – 55,000 per month in total, depending on the position and conditions of service
  • Full provision of gear, protective equipment and military property
  • The social package provided for service members
  • Opportunity to obtain combatant status (UBD)

Where you can grow

  • Senior specialist, head of the information systems function
  • Cybersecurity — with the appropriate training
  • Related areas: communications, HQ information systems
  • Professionally — experience of deploying infrastructure from scratch in field conditions

In the 141st, competence and results count — not length of service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Logic and process: we answer the key questions about enlistment, training and status.

Apply for this position
01

Is this more "hands-on" or "at the keyboard"?

+

Both. Laying cable and installing equipment are as much a part of the job here as configuring servers and tunnels.

02

Is in-depth knowledge of networking mandatory?

+

OSI, TCP/IP, VPN and VLAN are listed as a significant advantage, not a strict requirement. You can brush up on the basics on site if you have a technical foundation.

03

How is this different from a signaller?

+

A signaller works with military communications equipment. Here it is computer networks, servers and data transmission.

04

I have no military experience. Can I still join you?

+

Yes. Most of our best specialists were civilians yesterday. What matters to us is your motivation. We’ll match a role to your skills: if you understand machinery — you’ll go to the mechanics; if you know electronics — to UAVs or communications. Everything military — we’ll teach you.

05

How long does training take before deployment to the unit?

+

Every recruit completes Basic General Military Training (BGMT) at a training center. After that — additional specialized training depending on the chosen role. We send only the prepared to the line of contact — that is our core principle.

06

What happens after I fill out the form?

+

Your application goes to the recruiting center. Within 24 hours our specialist will call — it’s not an interrogation, just an introduction and answers to your questions. If we’re a match, the brigade issues an official request and our liaison helps you get through the TRC and MMB as fast as possible.

07

Can I transfer to the 141st SMB from another unit?

+

Yes, we consider transfers — including via the Army+ app. Fill out the form and select the status “Active service member” — a recruiter will advise on your real chances and the steps involved.

08

I am AWOL (SZCh). Can I join?

+

The law allows a return to service. If you’re motivated to fight in a sound team — fill out the form and state your status honestly. Our specialists will advise you individually on legal ways to return. Confidentially.

09

Do you provide uniform and equipment?

+

Yes. The brigade fully provides basic kit, body armor, helmets and weapons. Plus — thanks to a strong volunteer network, we have additional technological support: drones, EW, transport.
