Enemy drones hung overhead for hours, an 80 mm mortar was levelling the position, and there were no comms at all. The occupiers expected our guys to break and run. But the soldiers of the 141st Separate Mechanized Brigade are not the kind who run. They held out!
This footage and the story of the soldiers with the call signs “Sokil” and “Tykhyi” are direct proof that Ukrainian infantry is made of steel. When technology runs out, what decides is character, resilience and loyalty to brothers-in-arms.
“We had to dig in, but we don’t run”
The situation at the positions was extremely difficult. Enemy drones constantly monitored every movement, and Russian 80 mm mortars literally buried the guys in earth. Because of the heavy shelling and the constant presence of drones in the sky, the soldiers were unable to get in touch for a long time.
“We had to sit it out, dig in, take cover… We didn’t get in touch because we had no way to. A drone hung over us, waiting for us to run. But we’re the kind of people who don’t run”, the soldiers say, recalling those hellish hours.
Brotherhood and help from the sky
As the commanders admit, the most frightening thing is when the guys don’t get in touch. The command worries about every soldier. Yet even in such conditions, logistics and medical support found a way to the infantry. Whatever the guys needed — from ammunition to painkillers and medicines — was promptly delivered by “birds” straight to the positions.
The 141st SMB team became a real family for the soldiers. So that their loved ones would not go mad with worry, the guys even managed to record voice messages, which were passed along a chain of brothers-in-arms.
Well-deserved awards and an unbreakable spirit
With their iron endurance, “Sokil”, “Tykhyi” and their brothers-in-arms helped stop around 20 enemy assault actions. They did not break, did not surrender and kept fighting the occupiers. For this, the brigade commander came in person to present awards to the infantrymen.
“You showed how the job should be done… It is an honour to stand in the ranks with you today!” — the commander told the heroes, thanking them for their courage.
The soldiers themselves modestly note that they will rest later: “First we have to win our land back, and then we can think about the future”.
This shows that Ukraine is not broken. Everyone falls, but not everyone finds the strength to get up. Ours get up and move forward.
