In the evening twilight, under the open sky, the 141st Separate Mechanized Brigade brought together past and future in one of the most profound Ukrainian rituals — the solemn initiation of its soldiers. The ceremony, which united battle-hardened veterans and newly arrived warriors, bore witness to the renewal and unbreakable spirit of the units.

The centre of the event, both physically and metaphorically, was the live flame of the bonfire. This fire became a symbol of the brigade’s three inseparable truths: memory, unity and continuity. The ceremony began with a minute of silence — in the quiet, every warrior honoured fallen brothers-in-arms, whose heroism and self-sacrifice forever feed this flame.

Torch from hand to hand

In a sacred ritual, the commanders lit torches from the common bonfire and passed them to the young warriors. This act symbolised not merely the passing of light, but the passing of the very spirit of the brigade — its combat experience, its pain, its unbreakable will to victory and its responsibility for the future.

Addressing the personnel, brigade commander Bohdan Shevchuk stressed the deep meaning of the symbols that unite the warriors.

The brigade patch is not just a piece of fabric on the shoulder. It is dignity, courage and devotion. It is a symbol of the brotherhood reflected in our motto “One for another”. This emblem, tempered by the fire of memory and brotherhood, is not given away. It is earned.

The oath

The culmination of the ceremony was a unanimous oath of allegiance, whose words rolled over the formation like a mighty echo, engraving inviolable vows in the heart of every warrior:

“I will protect You, my Motherland, from the enemy invasion!”
“I will not allow anyone to disgrace the honour and glory of my Country!”
“I will be first in battle to win victory for my state!”

A sign that must be earned

After this sacred oath, the updated sleeve insignia were presented. This symbolises not only external changes in the brigade, but internal ones as well.

Experienced soldiers received combat insignia as evidence of the trials they have been through, while newcomers received “young patches”. This is not an award, but an advance of trust and a symbol of the path they have yet to travel to earn the right to wear it with pride.

This initiation is not a tribute to tradition, but a fundamental act of forging the fighting spirit of the renewed brigade. It cements the community and affirms an inviolable principle: the patch of the 141st SMB must be earned through honour, devotion and readiness for self-sacrifice.
