Vacancy: UGV Maintenance Technician
Unmanned ground vehicles carry ammunition and water to places where a person used to go under drone threat. They also evacuate the wounded. Every such vehicle that went instead of a person is a chance nobody sees in the reports.
The UGV Maintenance Technician keeps them running. The vehicles come back battered: shrapnel damage, blown suspension, flooded components, broken communications. Your job is to get the platform moving again — preferably today.
This is a position for someone good with their hands: more fitting, electrics and diagnostics than military romance.
Who can become a UGV Maintenance Technician
Military experience is not required. Technical experience is — the same kind valued on the civilian job market.
What really matters:
- Hands and head: electrics, mechanics, the ability to find the cause rather than replacing everything in sight
- A soldering iron and multimeter as everyday tools
- Experience with batteries, electric drives, wiring — any kind, including civilian
- Readiness to find solutions with what is at hand: standard spare parts for these vehicles often simply do not exist
- Medical fitness — determined by the military medical board (VLK)
On the main question: this is a military position, and everyone goes through basic military training. But you are hired for this specific job — in your profession.
What a UGV Maintenance Technician does in the 141st SMB
In addition to what is described in the requirements above:
- Diagnostics when a vehicle comes back: what has been knocked out, what has been flooded, what has simply worn out
- Repairing running gear and drives, restoring wiring, replacing components
- Working with control and communications equipment — without communications the platform is useless
- Maintaining batteries and power systems
- Modifying for the task: the vehicle often has to be adapted to how it is actually used
- Keeping records — what was repaired, what keeps breaking, what is in short supply
How you will be trained
The path is the same for everyone: 51 days of basic military training, then the brigade adaptation course — 14–15 days with instructors who have combat experience.
Then comes specialist training in the field and work alongside experienced technicians. Ground vehicles are new technology, and some of the know-how is built up right in the workshop: what a technician figures out for themselves often becomes a general rule.
Tactical medicine is drilled until it becomes automatic. Our instructors' principle is short: the priority is to survive.
What you will be provided with
You will be fully kitted out: gear, protective equipment, tools and the equipment you need for the job.
You will not be on your own. The maintenance technician works in the branch's technical group — together with UGV operators, other maintenance technicians and those who supply spare parts.
What the terms include:
- Pay: base pay of UAH 21,000 + an additional bonus of up to UAH 100,000 for carrying out tasks in the combat zone — up to UAH 121,000 per month in total, depending on the duration and area of the tasks
- Full provision of gear, protective equipment and military property
- The social package provided for service members
- Opportunity to obtain combatant status (UBD)
Where you can grow
- Senior technician, head of the branch's repair team
- UGV Operator — driving a vehicle you know down to the last screw
- Related technical specialties: UAV Maintenance Technician, Auto Electrician
- Professionally — experience with technology that did not exist five years ago
In the 141st, competence and results count — not length of service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Logic and process: we answer the key questions about enlistment, training and status.
Apply for this positionWhat is a UGV?
+An unmanned ground vehicle — a remotely controlled platform. It carries cargo, ammunition and water, evacuates the wounded and performs other tasks instead of people.
Do I need military experience?
+No. You need technical experience — electrics, mechanics, diagnostics. Military training is provided.
Where exactly does a UGV Maintenance Technician work?
+In the branch's technical group, at positions determined by the commander depending on the task. As a matter of principle, we do not name specific locations.
I have no military experience. Can I still join you?
+Yes. Most of our best specialists were civilians yesterday. What matters to us is your motivation. We’ll match a role to your skills: if you understand machinery — you’ll go to the mechanics; if you know electronics — to UAVs or communications. Everything military — we’ll teach you.
How long does training take before deployment to the unit?
+Every recruit completes Basic General Military Training (BGMT) at a training center. After that — additional specialized training depending on the chosen role. We send only the prepared to the line of contact — that is our core principle.
What happens after I fill out the form?
+Your application goes to the recruiting center. Within 24 hours our specialist will call — it’s not an interrogation, just an introduction and answers to your questions. If we’re a match, the brigade issues an official request and our liaison helps you get through the TRC and MMB as fast as possible.
Can I transfer to the 141st SMB from another unit?
+Yes, we consider transfers — including via the Army+ app. Fill out the form and select the status “Active service member” — a recruiter will advise on your real chances and the steps involved.
I am AWOL (SZCh). Can I join?
+The law allows a return to service. If you’re motivated to fight in a sound team — fill out the form and state your status honestly. Our specialists will advise you individually on legal ways to return. Confidentially.
Do you provide uniform and equipment?
+Yes. The brigade fully provides basic kit, body armor, helmets and weapons. Plus — thanks to a strong volunteer network, we have additional technological support: drones, EW, transport.
