Vacancy: Cybersecurity Specialist
The enemy does not only attack positions. Accounts, databases, communication channels, the brigade's website — all of these are an attack surface too, and the consequences of a breach can be more costly than lost equipment.
The Cybersecurity Specialist protects the brigade's infrastructure from cyberattacks: monitors threats, investigates incidents, tests systems for resilience and implements protective measures.
This is a position for someone who can think like an attacker in order to close the door before they do.
Who can become a Cybersecurity Specialist
Experience in cybersecurity is required. This is not an entry-level position.
What really matters:
- At least a year of experience in cybersecurity: infrastructure protection, incident response or penetration testing
- Understanding of the OWASP Top 10, CVE/CWE classifications and methods of defence against common attacks
- Experience with IDS/IPS systems and network traffic analysis
- Understanding of network technologies: TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash or PowerShell
- Cybersecurity certifications are an advantage
How cybersecurity differs from system administration: an administrator is responsible for keeping things running and configures protection as part of the job. A Cybersecurity Specialist looks for where that protection can be breached and investigates what has already happened.
What a Cybersecurity Specialist does in the 141st SMB
In addition to what is described in the requirements above:
- Event monitoring and detection of potential threats
- Investigation of cyber incidents, including root-cause analysis
- Implementation and configuration of security tools to protect the infrastructure
- Resilience testing of protection systems and analysis of identified vulnerabilities
- Preparation of technical reports and recommendations for fixing problems
- Development of security policies and delivery of training for personnel
How you will be trained
The path is the same for everyone: 51 days of basic military training, then the brigade adaptation course — 14–15 days with instructors who have combat experience.
Then comes work in your specialism. You will not need to be taught the basics here: this position is filled by people who already have experience. What you will need to master is the military specifics — the secrecy regime, the requirements for handling official information and the particulars of our systems.
Tactical medicine is drilled until it becomes automatic. Our instructors' principle is short: the priority is to survive.
What you will be provided with
You will be fully kitted out: gear, protective equipment, a workstation and equipment.
You will not be on your own. Cybersecurity works hand in hand with the administrators, the information systems specialists and the information protection team.
What the terms include:
- Pay: base pay of UAH 21,000 + an additional bonus of UAH 30,000 — approximately UAH 51,000 – 55,000 per month in total, depending on the position and conditions of service
- Full provision of gear, protective equipment and military property
- The social package provided for service members
- Opportunity to obtain combatant status (UBD)
Where you can grow
- Head of the brigade's information security function
- Related areas: information protection in automated systems
- Cyber hygiene instructor for personnel
- Professionally — hands-on experience of responding to real threats, not training scenarios
In the 141st, competence and results count — not length of service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Logic and process: we answer the key questions about enlistment, training and status.
Apply for this positionDo you take people without experience?
+No. This position is for a specialist with at least a year of practice — infrastructure protection, incident response or pentesting.
The pay is noticeably below the market rate — why is it worth it?
+To be honest: yes, for cybersecurity this pay range is not competitive. But here you are protecting not someone else's profit but the work of your unit, and you see the consequences of your decisions immediately.
Is this purely "defensive" work?
+The duties also include testing our own systems for resilience — that is, working with the methods an attacker uses, but against our own infrastructure.
I have no military experience. Can I still join you?
+Yes. Most of our best specialists were civilians yesterday. What matters to us is your motivation. We’ll match a role to your skills: if you understand machinery — you’ll go to the mechanics; if you know electronics — to UAVs or communications. Everything military — we’ll teach you.
How long does training take before deployment to the unit?
+Every recruit completes Basic General Military Training (BGMT) at a training center. After that — additional specialized training depending on the chosen role. We send only the prepared to the line of contact — that is our core principle.
What happens after I fill out the form?
+Your application goes to the recruiting center. Within 24 hours our specialist will call — it’s not an interrogation, just an introduction and answers to your questions. If we’re a match, the brigade issues an official request and our liaison helps you get through the TRC and MMB as fast as possible.
Can I transfer to the 141st SMB from another unit?
+Yes, we consider transfers — including via the Army+ app. Fill out the form and select the status “Active service member” — a recruiter will advise on your real chances and the steps involved.
I am AWOL (SZCh). Can I join?
+The law allows a return to service. If you’re motivated to fight in a sound team — fill out the form and state your status honestly. Our specialists will advise you individually on legal ways to return. Confidentially.
Do you provide uniform and equipment?
+Yes. The brigade fully provides basic kit, body armor, helmets and weapons. Plus — thanks to a strong volunteer network, we have additional technological support: drones, EW, transport.
